Who we are

Edinburgh Local (“we”, “us”) publishes and sells The Real Local’s Guide to Edinburgh, a digital PDF guide. We are the data controller for the personal data described here. You can contact us at any time at edinburghlocal1@gmail.com.

What we collect

  • Purchase details — your email address, the payment reference from Stripe, the amount paid and the date of purchase. We never see or store your card number.
  • Download activity — whether and how many times your download link has been used, so we can support you if a download fails.
  • Aggregate site statistics — anonymous, cookieless page-view counts collected by our hosting provider. These are not used to build a profile of you and are not shared with advertisers.

Why we use it (lawful basis)

  • Performance of a contract — to take your payment, send your receipt and deliver your guide.
  • Legal obligation — to keep records of sales for tax and accounting.
  • Legitimate interests — to keep the site secure and understand, at an aggregate level, how many people visit.

Cookies and tracking

This site does not use advertising cookies, Google Analytics, Meta Pixel or any other third-party tracking or profiling technology, so no consent banner is required. Fonts are served from our own domain rather than Google’s CDN, so simply visiting the site does not disclose your IP address to Google.

The only cookies that may be set are strictly necessary ones used by Stripe during checkout to process your payment and prevent fraud.

Who we share data with

We only use processors needed to run the shop:

  • Stripe — payment processing (Stripe is an independent controller for payment data under its own privacy policy).
  • Our hosting and database provider — storage of purchase records and secure delivery of your PDF.
  • Our email provider — sending your purchase confirmation and download link.

We never sell your data or share it for advertising purposes.

How long we keep it

Purchase records (including your email address) are kept for six years to meet UK tax and accounting requirements, then deleted. Aggregate site statistics contain no personal data.

Your rights

Under UK/EU data protection law you can ask us to access, correct, delete or export your data, or object to or restrict how we use it. Email edinburghlocal1@gmail.com and we will respond within one month. If you are not happy with our response you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data we will update this page and the date at the top.
